#440 - next generation

Today I’ve mostly been playing with the machine, but I did also manage to an achieve something I’ve been meaning to do for awhile.

This manky piece of cereal bog held together has been passing as the template for. Hitting out my DMC storage bags, but it’s developed a strange bend giving the cut out pieces a banana look to the sides. I also have an equally manky one for the interfacing, but that was a little too small.

So whilst we were out running messages this morning I popped into Heathfield Crafts and picked up some Template Plastic.  The fact that it was too small to just replicate the original, made me think out of the box, and I have allowed for the new one to cut out on the fold instead, and marked an interfacing line.

It’s actually proved a quicker process to bags/interfacing out, although I need to shave the interfacing down a bit otherwise the seams are a little thick for my liking.

To remind myself going forward, I have scruffily drawn in the fold line, but it’s occurred to me that my Cricut can cut this plastic, so I will probably design a cut file, with a slot for interfacing length and width that I can run pen down and get all fancy pants and use the Cricut to draw the fold line etc. - or just stick a label on there for the “instructions”, which are only for me anyway!

The great DMC storage bag race is not over by a country mile, I still have about 50 to make, so it will be worth it I think.

Also, practice using the Cricut would not go amiss, and if I can get the hang of it, I could cut out some appliquƩ templates.

#439 - Look what followed us home …

The Juki Kirie HZL-UX8. She is quite a bit larger than my Juki TL2200 QVP mini, but more buxom and full of bells and whistles.

I swear we just went to have a look, but she ran out to the car and refused to leave the boot until I paid off the lovely man at Sewing World in Tunbridge Wells.

The only reason I had any business at Sewing World in the first was to find out about the needle threader on the QVP in all truth, which despite following the manual instructions to the letter and various bits of online as I e, I had failed to get to work.    So I had some instruction, which advised not to follow the manual, but try a different method, and it worked.

I obviously have Tad the Toshiba but he really just medium level in features, and is happy under the stairs.  So, I had no reason to be looking at shiny and hideously expensive fancy machines … I guess I am just weak!  However, my justification is that I have fallen out of love with my current sewing machine, the Singer Legacy, and have donated to my sons’s partner as she does not have a sewing machine.  Once it goes off to its new home I would only be left with the QVP  which is a one trick pony insofar as it only does straight stitches, and does not appreciate PU and faux leather.

Our new baby handled many layers of denim, PU and faux leather like a charm, and has all the bells and whistles we could desire, a pivot function, a programmable foot pedals and other built in wonders! Also,  so it was rude to say no.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for such abundance my loving universal source of creation.  I am truly grateful.

Eventually, the intention is to get frame for the QVP so that it will perform a bit like a long-arm, but I can trade him in if I find that she is not being used, or it is too much bother to remember to use and oil her e very few weeks.  The QVPs are semi-industrial and need regular use and maintenance, the new one does not need oiling.  We shall se ….

#438 - HAED - Patron Saint of Hot Green Chilie - 6.89% completed

 Day 30

Not as much progress as I would have hoped as I’ve been washed out, and I took the opportunity to watch Sewing Street’s mega 3rd birthday event on 73. I also managed to input some of the back-data for Aquarius Rising WIP (AQR) onto XS Journal.

Talking of same, I took a screenshot for the CAT …PK is still out by 16 stitches, but I will run off the XSJ total going forward.

I think for the rest of the evening I will carry on getting data input for AQR into Xjs, as I would like to swap out when the current rows are FWOP.

 Day 25

Status Quo has been achieved, and I have a replacement iPad thank goodness. although, I had to go through hoops in a dog and pony show … it’s a long story.

I pulled on CAT yesterday evening, and made decent progress, and have worked on him on and off today.  For some reason I seemed to have started off working it in #Royal Rows, but then had gone hog wild and run amok in full on rebel rousing.  So now I have to work to rein it in, and am working left to right across (and down to those towers until I reach FWOP. I don’t really want to swap out until I have reached that point.

Still no functioning ipad

šŸ˜¢

... so please bear with me.  There is a replacement on its way thank goodness, although it was a surprise to me until I have been without it just how much I use it for blogging.

I took it in to the store to get a fix done, and it went wrong, and so the store are providing me with a comparable replacement with no charge, but I am at their mercy as to when it arrives in store.

#436 - HAED Mini Infanta Isabel De Bourbon - 11.09%

 Day 11

Usually minis are fine, but I’m a bit disappointed about the detail on the statuette.  It might be okay in the end as it’s only background, so I’ll reserve judgment for a bit.   Isabel is the focus anyway.

Lines 21 to 40 finished, and over the 10% mark.

Hopefully, I I’ll get the problem with my iPad resolved tomorrow.

 Day 9

Full coverage By The Numbers challenge - 500 stitches - finished.  I think it was so quickly done s it is background stitching, which has bigger blocks of colour.  Obviously, when I get further in it will be confetti hell.  So, I do feel justified to have just gone for the 500 total for this WIP.

 Day 340

Working Royal Rows proves a desert for most of the time,  but on some rows you meet oasis after oasis of page finishes.  The yellow pin marks the edge of page 21.

 Day 339

A whopping 17,912 stitch count for January 2023 ... I think that is my personal best by a long mile, and impressive main e I had quite a few no stitch days because I was poorly.

With a following wind I should get another page finish today too.
